Genomes of hyperprevalent phages from the UHGV dataset
UHGV hyperprevalent phages
This collection contains proteins encoded by 328 phage genomes that are hyperprevalent across global human gut metagenomes. These genomes represent a subset of the Unified Human Gastrointestinal Virome (UHGV), a comprehensive catalogue of viral genomes derived from gut metagenomes of diverse human populations.
The phages in this subset were detected across numerous metagenomic samples from multiple countries. Compared to other phages in the UHGV dataset, hyperprevalent phages exhibit substantially broader host ranges and greater capacity to switch between different hosts. This flexibility enables them to explore diverse ecological niches and persist in gut microbiomes with distinct compositions.
